Utilities/Check Notation submenu
This submenu offers utilities for checking the notational integrity of several types of elements.
- Check Elapsed Time. Use this command to display the Elapsed Time dialog box, which displays the real-time length of the selected region of music based on the currently defined tempo.
- Check Ties. Use this command to correct the playback of ties in a selected region. When you first put ties into the score using the Simple Entry or Speedy Entry tools, they sometimes don’t play back correctly. For example, the ending tied note may be articulated again instead of being added to the duration of the note to which it’s tied; furthermore, when a tie straddles a system line break, the tie sometimes isn’t continued onto the next system. This command corrects these problems.
Additionally, this command fixes any missing accidentals on notes that were formerly tied. For example, if two notes with an accidental on the first had been tied and the octave of the second note was changed, the accidental might not be drawn on the second note. This command corrects this problem.
- Convert Mirrors. Use this command to convert mirrored measures into "real" measures, in effect severing the link to the original source measures and changing the selected mirror measures into normal non-mirrors. The "Converting the mirrors…" alert box appears, asking you if you're sure you want to convert them.
- Fill With Rests. Use this command to check a selected region of music for rhythmically incomplete measures and automatically fills them with the correct number of rests, saving you the time-consuming task of checking measures yourself (perhaps inaccurately). Fill With Rests works on full measures, not partial measures. However, if you select a region that contains a partial measure, Finale warns you in advance that the full measure will be filled with rests. You can choose to continue or to cancel the Fill With Rests request.
Note that this command will not affect completely empty measures (measures with default rests). To do so, use the Change to Real Whole Rests plug-in. Also, if you have selected one of the Allow Dotted Rests in the More Quantization Settings dialog box, Finale allows the use of dotted rests. For example, three eighth rests will become a dotted quarter rest.
- Remove Manual Slur Adjustments. Use this command to reset any Smart Shape slurs to their default positions. Engraver slurs will reshape independently again.
- Reset All Groups & Brackets. Choose this command to apply Finale's automatic group and bracket settings to all staves and systems in your score. These are the same settings Finale uses when creating groups and brackets when you start a new score with the Setup Wizard. This setting might be required if you have unchecked "Automatic Instrument Family Group Brackets" in Preferences-Edit and wish to restore Finale's automatic groups and brackets throughout your score. When invoking this command, all manual changes to groups are removed.
