How to get there

  1. Choose Window > Advanced Tools Palette. Choose the MIDI tool . The MIDI tool menu appears.
  2. Double-click a measure with notes to open the MIDI tool window.
  3. Select a note handleA small square which appears on currently "selectable" elements in the score. Handles allow you to select, edit and adjust musical elements in the score. in the MIDI tool split-window and choose MIDI tool > Edit MIDI Note or double-click a note handle in the MIDI tool split-window.

What it does

This dialog box simply provides a convenient way to edit the Start and Stop Times and key velocityStrictly speaking, key velocity refers to the pressure or force with which a piano-style key is depressed. A key velocity value can be used in MIDI to denote the attack tone or the volume of a MIDI event (although MIDI CC 7, Volume, is more common for the latter). In Finale, key velocity is generally interpreted as volume, with one notable exception being several of the Garritan Instruments for Finale. of a note in one place.

  • MIDI Note Number. This text tells you the MIDI Note Number of the selected note.
  • Start Time • Stop Time. Enter the Start Time and Stop Time for the selected note.
  • Velocity. Enter the Key Velocity for the selected note.
  • OK • Cancel. Click OK (or press enter to confirm, or Cancel to discard, the MIDI data changes you’ve specified. You return to the MIDI tool split-window (or the score).
