To hide empty staves in systems (Page View):

To hide empty staves

  1. Click the Staff tool . The Staff menu appears.
  2. Select the empty staves you want to hide. You can either highlight the staff handle(s), or select at least one measure of the staff in systems you want to affect. See Selecting Music. Press CTRL+A to Select All.
  3. Choose Staff > Hide Empty Staves. The staves disappear from the score, and are replaced with dashed lines indicating the existence of one or more hidden staves. (Note that Finale respects the "When Hiding Empty Staves" setting in the Group Attributes dialog box when hiding empty staves, which may prevent certain staves from being hidden. See Group Attributes dialog box.)
  4. Repeat the process for other staves/systems as needed.

See also To Show empty staves. To hide staves that are not empty, see To hide staves for ossia measures or special playback.
